Hi! Totally random but as someone in the medical field just wanted to say breast cancer is common and your nips play a significant role in early detection.
Please make sure to notify your doc that your entire nipple and areola have been tattooed, and make sure you get very familiar with what is normal for you now that they’re tattooed. It will be much harder to see skin texture/colour changes so if you get very familiar with your normal you will be able to spot them much easier. If the doc knows they’re completely tattooed they will also know in the event of a breast exam to pay extra close attention in case the ink is covering up any rashes etc. May even be worthwhile taking some close up pics in good lighting from all angles (no way to say that without sounding seedy sry) just so you have a reference point if you ever get an inkling (pun intended) that something has changed.
Also these are absolutely amazing and I’m now contemplating getting mine done.
EDIT: Moral obligation as the top comment to say ladies (and dudes!) please get used to feeling your breast tissue, including all the way into the armpit (this is very very very important). Use the pads of your fingers and start in the armpit, pressing firmly and rubbing in a circle motion, then move in a spiral until you’ve covered the whole boob and nip.
I know it’s confusing because with your cycle and weight changes the tissue can feel different week to week, but you will gain a general idea! Your doctor cannot know your baseline nearly as well as you can. I personally have very lumpy boobies from surgery and because I’m familiar with my lumps and bumps was able to quickly notice a new lump and have it investigated. If you can’t get familiar with your lumps something you can do is put your hands on your hips in front of a mirror and hunch your shoulders forward/clench your pecs in different positions every now and again, this will make any fibrosis or tethering stand out.
Breast cancer is a substantial public health issue and your doctor will never think you’re being over the top for asking to investigate a new lump or skin change, no matter how minor!
